Showing Off: Aug 1, 2012

August 2, 2012

Today potential donors came for a visit at Sick Kids to be convinced to give them money and Oliver was a stop on the tour! I don’t know why but that made me stupid proud. I want to show him off and apparently so does Dr Cox. It really warms my heart. I hope they give their money to the PICU, it is the most incredible place I’ve ever been and it’s filled with the most incredible people I’ve ever met. I told Michael Marshall (SK Chaplain) that he’d hitched his horse to the right cart, Sick Kids is easily the holiest place in Toronto if you go by prayers asked and miracles performed.

Oliver had another smooth day today. That darn chyle is still motoring along. Dr Himidan wants to try clamping it off to see if his body will reabsorb it. But it effectively is clamped on the right (by the block, they keep having to aspirate it) and his body doesn’t seem to be doing anything about it. So now PICU has to think about that I suppose. He had an ultrasound of his brain & neck today. Clots aren’t any better but they also aren’t any worse so that’s good news as it took a few days to get the heparin to therapeutic levels. His brain is also perfect, which prompted Dr Mustache to point out that he already knew that, gesturing at bright eyed Ollie and saying “he’s clearly a genius”. A month ago he was new and very shy, this joke was a pleasant revelation! He had another dream team today with Nurse Adelaide and RT Alison and they managed to get his vent down to 30-5-20-14 while getting all sorts of annoying-to-Oliver things done like line changes and fentanyl weaning. All in all it was a very good day. We are so grateful but know there are still hurdles to overcome and we pray constantly that Oliver will get to come home. Xo
