Spa Day: July 31, 2012

August 1, 2012

This is going to be short and sweet. Today was another miraculously smooth day. Oliver’s ventilator is now at 30-5-30-14 (goal 25-5-0-10), that big drop in the rate is big news and very exciting! The chyle is still an annoying problem, I’m considering getting ****ing Chyle t-shirts made for all of Oliver’s peeps. It really is annoying. The right tube is blocked, so it keeps backing up and setting his ventilation strides back. But now that the problem has been identified it can be addressed, so they are manually aspirating it every 6 hours which is doing the trick for now.

Really the big news in Oliver Land was the spa day he had. Sam washed him, gave him a massage with oil (to help with the “leathery skin” RT Christina accused him of having – you try spending four weeks under a heat lamp!), changed his sheets and put a coordinating hat and rattle on him that I’d brought in. Then I cut his finger nails and she cleaned up his lips. Now he looks so amazing, people are coming by to check out his hat.

My mom offered to hang out with Ollie today so we took the opportunity to spend some time with Poppy as a family. We went to the beach and it was fabulous! I’m always on edge, but a little less these days, so I was able to really enjoy it. Poppy and Tim enjoy everything. Then Poppy went over to Grandma and Grandad’s for a sleepover and Tim and I got to spend time as a family with Oliver. It was a really nice day. I’m praying for and looking forward to the day all four of us can spend time as a family together. Xo

Keep on keepin on Ollie! Nice that Poppy got to spend a fine day with her folks. Sounds a bit like Ollie’s not as acute as he was only a few days ago? Except for the chyle, sounds like he’s heading in the right direction. Praying for the chyle to stop.

  4. ❤ So glad you had a great day 🙂 x

Hi ! Thinking of the Wessons every day ! Alex, I admire your strength and courage. The apple does not fall from the tree!!!
I want to share with you this…. last week when Oliver was not so well, I went to see my mom (88 and in a home). I told her about Oliver and asked her to pray for him. She said ” oh I will, I will. I’ll pray to St Anthony, he always listens to my prayers”. It’s so true, many stories that I could recount, but so true. When I was telling my mom Oliver’s story, moms caregiver was listening. Susan is her name and she told me her daughter was in Israel and that she would ask her to go to the wailing wall and pray for Oliver. The next day Susan texted me that her daughter went the wailing wall, wrote a pray for Oliver and placed it in the crack or opening in the wall. When she stepped back a dove came flying by her and went inside the very same crack of wall that she just placed Oliver’s prayer. Susan said her daughter was overcome with emotion and that it was a really great sign.
I had goose bumps when she told me this. I still get goose bumps when I think about it.
Take care and hugs and kisses to Poppy.
